The young Ryan is exploited by the Summerholt Institute, but he manages to escape and send a desperate message to Clark. Clark rescues him, but is accused of abduction of a child by Ryan’s corrupt tutor, Dr. Garner. He also finds out that his telepathic young friend has a brain tumor. Although Clark pushes his abilities to the limit to save Ryan, fate is against them. Dean and Nell plan to move to Metropolis, but Lana wants to stay in Smallville and Lex confronts the corrupt Mayor Tate.
